Adam and Eve
R7,000.00
Phikisile created her colourful wall hangings from re-used coloured plastic bags, collected in and around her Vosloorus home. After washing them thoroughly, she would carefully peg them out to dry. She would draw her design on an old mielie bag, and then create the image using a crotchet hook to carefully pull through the strips of coloured plastic.
Phikisile passed away in 2020, aged 79. She was a true artist, with an incredible imagination and a work ethic that didn’t decline with age.
This piece, entitled ‘Adam and Eve’, is a tribute to her singular vision and rich imagination. It depicts giraffe, leopards, an elephant, some of Adam and Eve’s offspring, and their houses. Central to the panel are Adam and Eve, holding hands under the Tree of Knowledge. To their left creeps the snake, well hidden in the long grass.
This piece could be framed or hung on a wall as it is. However, there are no loops for hanging, so these would have to be added.
