The production unit also provides valuable experience and income for Imbali’s 3rd year students and graduates, helping them to move from being full-time students to running their own businesses. The unit also contributes to our ongoing sustainability by bringing in much-needed income to support our crafts training and other activities.
‘The conference bags that Imbali made for the SAVAH Conference in Cape Town in September 2019 were wonderful. They were a great talking point throughout the conference. All the delegates commented on how beautiful, bright, and perfectly sized for a note pad, small laptop and other conference paraphernalia they were. The handles were also very strong. A few months after the conference I was at a meeting in Pretoria with academics from all over the country and EVERYONE of them was using their SAVAH 2019 conference bags! They all said “what a great conference, look at the beautiful bag”- the bags will be remembered long after the papers.’

‘On screen at the moment at the Gala Dinner. No competing brands anywhere. Came out very nicely. Gifts are all on the seats. Seen people sharing them with such interest. It’s all good. Thanks to GE:SKENK and the IMBALI VISUAL LITERACY PROJECT for working on it.’

‘This was a win-win partnership for us. The creations by these artisans are now used in Play Africa’s ground breaking Farm to Market prototype exhibit, which teaches children about basic numeracy, literacy, nutrition and agricultural science, as well as sensory development, communication and teamwork. We look forward to many more years of partnership with Imbali and its artisans, who are getting skills development that will be crucial in the development of many more exhibits for our first-of-its-kind hands-on learning centre for children and families’.
-Gretchen Wilson-Prangley, CEO, Play Africa.
The Jozi fabrics are a very successful range and can be ordered in various colour combinations. These are typically used for upholstery, curtains or table cloths.
‘We asked Imbali to prepare fabric to recover our couch. Imbali did a great job and we’re thrilled with the beautiful design which so perfectly matches our organisational colours and our mission.’
