Imbali’s production unit is an income-generating unit developed to meet the needs of corporates and government by providing larger quantities (between 20 and 1500 units) of handmade gifts, conference bags and bespoke craft products. Our many years of experience in the crafts sector ensure that clients are provided with quality products that meet their needs and budgets.  Product excellence, combined with our ability to meet deadlines, has earned our production unit many loyal clients.

The production unit also provides valuable experience and income for Imbali’s 3rd year students and graduates, helping them to move from being full-time students to running their own businesses. The unit also contributes to our ongoing sustainability by bringing in much-needed income to support our crafts training and other activities.

Conference bags
Imbali has fulfilled numerous orders for conference bags, the largest of these being a commission for 1500 bags for a national Tuberculosis Conference in 2018. Imbali tailor-makes conference bags to meet the specific needs and budget of a client – anything from a hand printed fabric bag with an adjustable strap, lining and pockets, to a basic bag made from African Print fabric.

‘The conference bags that Imbali made for the SAVAH Conference in Cape Town in September 2019 were wonderful. They were a great talking point throughout the conference. All the delegates commented on how beautiful, bright, and perfectly sized for a note pad, small laptop and other conference paraphernalia they were. The handles were also very strong. A few months after the conference I was at a meeting in Pretoria with academics from all over the country and EVERYONE of them was using their SAVAH 2019 conference bags! They all said “what a great conference, look at the beautiful bag”- the bags will be remembered long after the papers.’

Backgammon sets
A financial company ordered 1500 roll-up fabric backgammon sets. The sets were constructed with pockets for the chips and dice, and the game board screen printed in black and white. The company logo was screen printed on the reverse.

‘Thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts. The event was last night. Our client is incredibly happy with the outcome, the backgammon sets are exceptional.’

-Viki Scheffel, Founder of GE:SKENK

‘On screen at the moment at the Gala Dinner. No competing brands anywhere. Came out very nicely. Gifts are all on the seats. Seen people sharing them with such interest. It’s all good. Thanks to GE:SKENK and the IMBALI VISUAL LITERACY PROJECT for working on it.’

Barry Childs, Joint CEO, Insight Actuaries and Consultants.

Makeup purses and plant bags
Imbali made 1000 makeup purses for a corporate client, who presented these to their female employees on Women’s Day. These were made from our beautiful black and white geometric screen printed fabric, with colourful zips, tassels and lining making the purses both eye-catching and functional.

The completed make-up purses look amazing, well done to you and your team Justine! What a beautiful project’.

-Viki Scheffel, Founder of GE:SKENK

‘Super work, we are thrilled – thank you again!’

-Melanie Kidson, Project Manager

Soft fruit and veg
Imbali produced many hundreds of units of soft fruit and vegetables for a children’s project. These were used to educate children about nutrition.

‘This was a win-win partnership for us. The creations by these artisans are now used in Play Africa’s ground breaking Farm to Market prototype exhibit, which teaches children about basic numeracy, literacy, nutrition and agricultural science, as well as sensory development, communication and teamwork. We look forward to many more years of partnership with Imbali and its artisans, who are getting skills development that will be crucial in the development of many more exhibits for our first-of-its-kind hands-on learning centre for children and families’.

-Gretchen Wilson-Prangley, CEO, Play Africa.

Large ceramic vases
Imbali’s striking black and white ceramics caught the eye of an interior designer, who commissioned four large vases for a hotel foyer.
Fabric
Any of the Imbali fabrics can be ordered in quantities of five meters or more. The fabric is 100% cotton and perfect for covering furniture or cushions. Chairs or couches upholstered in Imbali fabric make a strong design statement in any home or office.

The Jozi fabrics are a very successful range and can be ordered in various colour combinations. These are typically used for upholstery, curtains or table cloths.

‘We asked Imbali to prepare fabric to recover our couch.  Imbali did a great job and we’re thrilled with the beautiful design which so perfectly matches our organisational colours and our mission.’
